Presenters

Cedar Barstow, M.Ed., CHT is a consultant and teacher on ethics issues. She has been designing, developing, and teaching the Right Use of Power approach since 1994. Her background includes 20 years as a psychotherapist and 15 years as a teacher. She is the author of books and articles on ethics, counseling with elders, women and independence, and psychotherapy and spirituality. Cedar is also a Hakomi Experiential Psychology Trainer, a member of the Naropa University Adjunct Faculty and maintains a private psychotherapy and ethics consulting practice in Boulder/Denver. She teaches both Right Use of Power and Hakomi nationally and internationally.   Cedar Barstow most recently taught an ethics workshop at InnerWell on January 28, 2011.

Janina Fisher, Ph.D. is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and Instructor at the Trauma Center, an outpatient clinic and research center founded by Bessel van der Kolk.  Known for her expertise as both a clinician and consultant, she is also past president of the New England Society for the Treatment of Trauma and Dissociation, an EMDR International Association Credit Provider, a faculty member of the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute, and a former Instructor, Harvard Medical School.  Dr. Fisher has been an invited speaker at the Cape Cod Institute, Harvard Medical School Conference on Women and Summer and Winter Conference Series, EMDR International Association Annual Conference, University of Wisconsin, the University of Westminster in London, the Psychotraumatology Institute of Europe, and the Esalen Institute.  Dr. Fisher lectures and teaches nationally and internationally on topics related to the integration of the neurobiological research and newer trauma treatment paradigms into traditional therapeutic modalities.  Dr. Fisher taught an InnerWell continuing education workshop most recently in March of 2010 on “Broken Bonds: Attachment, Trauma & the Body,” and she is the lead trainer for the InnerWell cosponsored Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Training for the Treatment of Trauma, being held in Brattleboro, VT, 2010-2011.

Jack Kornfield, PhD, is one of the leading Buddhist teachers in America. A practitioner for over 40 years, he is one of the key teachers to introduce mindfulness and vipassana meditation to the West. His approach emphasizes compassion, lovingkindness and the profound path of mindful presence, all offered in simple, accessible ways in his books, CD’s, classes and retreats.  Jack Kornfield will be teaching a two-day workshop at InnerWell with Dan Siegel, MD in the fall of 2012.  Please join our mailing list for early notification when registration opens.

Pat Ogden, PhD is a pioneer in somatic psychology and the founder and director of the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute, an internationally recognized school that specializes in training psychotherapists in somatic/cognitive approaches for the treatment of trauma, developmental and attachment issues.  She has 35 years experience working with individuals and groups, is a co-founder of The Hakomi Institute, serves on the faculty of The Naropa University, and lectures internationally. She is the first author of the groundbreaking book, Trauma and the Body: A Sensorimotor Approach to Psychotherapy.  Dr. Ogden will be teaching a workshop in April of 2012 with Bessel van der Kolk on Trauma, Attachment & the Body.  Please join our email list to receive notification when registration opens for this event.

Richard C. Schwartz, PhD, LMFT, is a licensed marriage and family therapist, fellow of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and creator of the Internal Family Systems model. He was associated with the Institute for Juvenile Research at the University of Illinois at Chicago and more recently with The Family Institute at Northwestern University. He is author of Internal Family Systems Therapy and Introduction to the Internal Family Systems Model and coauthor of Family Therapy: Concepts and Methods, the most widely read family therapy textbook. As a teacher, he is known for his warmth, sensitivity, and clarity. Dr. Schwartz will be presenting a 2-day workshop at InnerWell on June 24-25, 2011.  Registration is now open.

Daniel J. Siegel, MD is the director of the Mindsight Institute and author of The Developing Mind, Parenting from the Inside Out (with Mary Hartzell), The Mindful Brain, and his latest book, Mindsight. He is the founding editor of the Norton Series on Interpersonal Neurobiology and serves as codirector of the Mindful Awareness Research Center and co-investigator of the Center for Culture, Brain, and Development at UCLA.  Dr. Siegel will be presenting a two-day workshop with Jack Kornfield in the fall of 2012. Bessel van der Kolk, MD, is a clinical psychiatrist whose work attempts to integrate mind, brain, body, and social connections to understand and treat trauma. His research ranges from the impact of trauma on development and brain imaging, to the use of yoga, neurofeedback, EMDR, and theater in PTSD. He is a professor of psychiatry at Boston University School of Medicine, medical director of the Trauma Center in Boston, and director of the Complex Trauma Treatment Network, NCTSN. Author of over a hundred scientific articles, his books include Psychological Trauma, Traumatic Stress, and the upcoming The Body Keeps Score: Body, Mind, and Brain in the Transformation of Trauma.  For more information about Dr. van der Kolk, visit www.traumacenter.org. Anne Westcott, LICSW, is a psychotherapist with over 20 years experience working with children and families. Her commitment to children and caregivers impacted by trauma has led her to explore new body oriented approaches to enhance arousal regulation in traumatized family systems. Anne provides education and consultation on trauma, dissociation, attachment, and arousal regulation and is a supervisor at the Trauma Center in Boston MA. Anne received her Masters Degree in Social Work from Columbia University in 1987.  Anne Westcott is the primary trainer for the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute’s training programs in Brattleboro, Vermont, including the 2010-2011 Training for the Treatment of Trauma.

Rachel Zamore, MA, LMFT, is a psychotherapist in Brattleboro, VT, and the founder of InnerWell.  Rachel’s approach is influenced by extensive training in somatic and spiritually-informed psychotherapy, including Sensorimotor Trauma Psychotherapy, Hakomi Experiential Psychotherapy, Re-Creation of the Self Therapy, and EMDR, as well as a Masters degree in Integral Counseling Psychology and a longtime mindfulness and lovingkindness meditation practice.  Rachel is available for telephone and live clinical consultation for psychotherapists, and also offers periodic teaching and consultation groups in integrative counseling, including a current yearlong seminar and consultation group on Affect Regulation & the Body.
